DRUM LESSONS
ONLINE ONLY FROM TACOMA, WA
I love playing drums! A primarily self-taught drummer myself, I consider my role as one of gentle guide. I help provide a foundation all the while allowing the student's instincts and interests to take the lead. My aim is to encourage the organic development of each person's individual style. Together, my students and I have a blast practicing stick control, limb independence, learning to read drum notation, using the whole drum set, playing beats and fills, and learning songs to jam along with. Through it all, I share my passion for drums and music and encourage active listening in daily life. The best players are those who listen and the best collaborators are generous and responsive. It is my hope to instill these concepts in every student I work with.
I am now offering lessons on a sliding scale.

ONLINE LESSON REQUIREMENTS
We will be using Zoom for lessons. It is important that you use a laptop and not a mobile device as the audio settings for Zoom mobile are not sophisticated enough to handle the volume of drums. I recommend wearing headphones - ideally Bluetooth noise cancelling so you aren't fussing with cords and get some hearing protection from the noise cancellation. If you don't have noise cancelling head phones, wearing earbuds under noise muffling ear muffs, or earplugs under over ear headphones can work. The goal is to hear me and protect your hearing at the same time!
"I started drum lessons as very much a beginner. I had never played an instrument and could barely clap my hands to a beat... Sara has that great teacher instinct of knowing when to be patient and knowing when to provide challenges. I always look forward to Sara's encouragement and guidance. For those about to rock, Sara can show you the way!"

"I have wanted to be a drummer since I was 10 years old and Sara is now helping me achieve a life long dream. I feel so fortunate to have found Sara for many reasons. One, I have a strange way of learning, some may call it a learning difficulty, and so classes actually provoke some anxiety. I could not go to just any teacher; it needed to be someone who could be patient with me and hold the space so that I could learn at my own pace. I have never felt anything but acceptance and championing from Sara. Her capability to understand and relay technique as well as have you experience the heart of the feeling is a fantastic combo. If you have been wanting to learn the drums then you have just found the best person to drum alongside you!"

"By the end of lesson one, I could drum along to Highway to Hell, albeit terribly. But the Lund did not judge."
